New on Netflix is a weekly feature appearing every Friday, listing all of the week’s newest genre film related additions to everyone’s favorite streaming service–and just in time for the weekend! So pop some popcorn, crack open a few beers, dim the lights, and kill a few hours in Wicked Horror style.
Only one genuine horror movie added to Netflix Instant this week, but there’s also some family-friendly fare and some good old fashioned action that might be of interest to the genre fan.
Robocop (2014)
“When Detroit cop and family man Alex Murphy is critically injured in the line of duty, a robotics firm transforms him into an experimental crime-fighting cyborg, though he remains haunted by his human past in this reboot of the 1980s sci-fi classic.” – Okay, so it doesn’t have Peter Weller. But it does have Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, and Samuel L. Jackson. That’s a whole lot of badass for one little film.
“Sentenced to house arrest under her mother’s roof, surly troublemaker Kylie Bucknell reluctantly returns to her childhood home, where she dismisses her mom’s claim that the house is haunted — until a trip to the cellar changes Kylie’s mind.” – Wicked Horror’s own Tyler Doupe’ called Housebound one of the best horror films of 2014. Read his review.
“When a construction project begins in their neighborhood, four friends start receiving bizarre encoded text messages on their cell phones. Setting out to find the origin of the texts, the group stumbles on an astonishing answer.” – Certainly not a horror film, but if you remember the thrill of watching E.T. or Flight of the Navigator with your parents as a child, this may be your chance to pass the experience onto the next generation.
