I Spit On Your Grave 2 – Vengeance Is Hers

Katie attacks man in the bathroom in I Spit on Your Grave 2

Steven R.Monroe brings us another brutal and vengeful story with a bloody justified end in I Spit on Your Grave 2.

Katie Carter, played by Jemma Dellender, is a beautiful and aspiring model living in New York City. In dire need of a portfolio, Katie answers an advertisement that offers a free photo session for wannabe models. During the shoot Katie quickly realizes that the photographer, Ivan (Joe Absolom), and his fellow perverted assistants are simply running a scam to get women to pose for nude photos.

The next day Ivan’s brother Georgy (Yavor Baharoff), one of the men also present at the photo shoot, takes the pictures that were shot to her apartment and apologizes for his brother’s behavior. Georgy’s intentions aren’t as good as they seem though as he sneaks into her house the following day, brutally abuses Katie and kills her friend and neighbor Jayson (Michael Dixon) in the process.

Calling his comrades for help, sleazy lay about Nicolay (Aleksandar Aleksiev) and leader of the gang, Ivan, decide that they have to kill Katie, but not before planting evidence to frame her as Jayson’s murderer. After being drugged into unconsciousness, Katie wakes up chained to a pole, naked and laying on a dirty mattress in a dark basement.

Escaping and believing she may be finally on her way to safety, she is given false hope by a vile woman named Ana (Mary Stockley). Ana takes her back to the Eastern European perpetrators who then aggressively violate Katie more and more, lending her to a friend who tortures her with a taser before violently raping her. She is beaten, bruised, bloody and placed into a box.

Miraculously escaping for the second time, Katie spends a few days surviving and fending for herself, stealing food from a church she finds herself hiding beneath. She is caught by Father Dimov (Valentine Pelka) who tries to comfort her, giving her clothes, food and the bible. Standing outside the American Embassy Katie makes a decision to come back later. Once she has sought her revenge and vengeance becomes hers.

Both the abuse and the revenge scenes are brutal, but the justice wasn’t delivered with same realism and belief as the 2010 remake of I Spit on your Grave. The story was stronger and more developed within the first but there are times you genuinely feel the distress that Katie Carter feels, and you do root for her, if grimacing at the same time.

The acting was well done, and overall, I spit on your grave 2 was a good sequel, if flawed in parts. If you like your torture movies, you’ll want to watch it at least for that.
