Opera is a 1987 giallo horror film directed by Dario Argento and starring Cristina Marsillach as Betty, a young soprano finally getting her chance to be in the spotlight when she replaces an injured diva in a new production of Macbeth. Unfortunately, Betty is superstitious and wary of the alleged Macbeth curse. Soon enough, strange things begin to happen around the opera house, and Betty finds herself being toyed with by someone who enjoys dangerously playing with needles. Betty is forced to watch the horror in the present as the past comes back to haunt her. Also starring Urbano Barberini, Ian Charleson, William McNamara, and Argento’s frequent collaborator Daria Nicolodi, Opera is bursting with all the creatively bizarre and lavish style associated with the works of Dario Argento.
