Harrow County 13 launches a new story arc within the Eisner nominated horror series’ bizarre universe. Emmy has believed throughout the series that she is the only one of her kind because no one in the area seems to have the same abilities she possesses. In this new arc, other people come to Harrow County with mysterious powers. What’s even more disturbing? They claim to be Emmy’s family.
If you’ve been following Harrow County as religiously as you should, then this is a fantastic new development. A recurring theme has been how different and frightening other people find Emmy, so the opportunity to not only see different abilities that can exist in this strange reality, but potential family members for Emmy is fantastic. Writer Cullen Bunn’s storytelling skills have once more created a captivating plot line for what might have otherwise been a dull introduction. (Although this comic will have you eager to read #14!)
As always, Tyler Crook delivers illustrations which are as beautiful as they are disturbing. The water color effects on each page make the comic feel very much like a classic storybook, which is befitting not only of Bunn’s style, but the sort of project they’re putting together.I’ll definitely be on the lookout for Harrow County 14, as this new arc has all the makings of a compelling storyline and the artistry has shown no signs of slowing down.
