‘The Sacrament’ – Upcoming DVD Release

[soliloquy id=”7346″]

The Sacrament follows two journalists as they accompany a friend searching for his sister who has taken up residence at a commune. The film draws much of its inspiration from the Jonestown murders of 1978 and uses the found footage method of storytelling. However, since the cameraman is a professional journalist, the choppy camerawork common to found footage films is not nearly as prevalent.

The film is written and directed by horror auteur Ti West and is being produced by Eli Roth. The Sacrament will see release on DVD and Blu-ray August 19, 2014 via Magnet Releasing. It stars A.J. Bowen, Joe Swanberg, and Amy Seimetz in the lead roles with Gene Jones playing the leader of the compound.

The Sacrament has garnered mixed reviews but the feedback so far has been more positive than negative. As of this posting, it holds a 63% ‘fresh’ rating on the aggregate film ranking site Rotten Tomatoes.

I missed this one during its theatrical/VOD release and am anxiously anticipating its arrival on home video. Ti West has a knack for slow burn horror and The Sacrament looks like it is poised to further showcase the director’s keen ability to terrify his audience.
