Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson On Board for Suspiria Remake?

In a recent Q&A session for A Bigger Splash, director Luca Guadagnino reportedly announced that he will be reuniting with Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton for the long-discussed remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The news comes from a firsthand account from film critic and author Alex Heller-Nicholas via Twitter. If we receive further confirmation, we will update this post accordingly.

While Guadagnino did not reveal a great deal about the project, he did say that the film will be set in 1977 Berlin. He also suggested he would like to try to get composer John Adams (with whom he has collaborated previously) to tackle the film’s score. Lastly, the director suggested that we can expect to see strong influences of Fassbinder in his redux.

The project was originally going to be helmed by David Gordon Green but the director eventually parted ways with the project. Guadagnino has previously established that his version will be “very different” from Argento’s original.

We don’t know when the project is set to begin lensing but we do know that Johnson is reportedly working on two Fifty Shades films back to back until at least June. We will keep you apprised as soon as we learn more about this project.

In the original, Suzy Bannion arrives in Germany where she is attending an all female dance academy. Once there, she discovers that something about the school is amiss. Things are not as they seem. The faculty is distant and secretive. Her peers have unusual tendencies. People keep dying suspicious but seemingly accidental deaths. And strange goings on abound. Suzy soon begins to suspect that witchcraft is being practiced on the premises. But she must piece it all together before she becomes the next student to meet with a tragic “accident”.
