The upcoming reboot/reimagining/pseudo prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has cast its Leatherface. We have just learned that Sam Strike of EastEnders (pictured left) is in negotiations to play a young version of Leatherface for the upcoming Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside) helmed entry in the rebooted franchise. The script was penned by Seth M. Sherwood.
The film will reportedly tell the story of Leatherface as a youngster in the early ’70s. The latest installment is being housed at Millennium, the outfit that released the latest installment in the series, Texas Chainsaw 3D. This latest installment is clearly setting out to further complicate the timeline of an already complicated series. Texas Chainsaw blatantly ignored the timeline established by the first film (which it claimed to be a direct sequel to) by setting it in the present but portraying its lead as way younger than she should have actually been. And now we will be seeing another film that further confuses the already questionable series of events. Since Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre saw Leatherface as an adult in the early 1970s, it makes very little sense to set the film in that very same timeframe and portray the character as a teen.
It is, however, important to note that The Wrap sourced this story from ‘individuals familiar with the project’. So, it’s entirely possible that any or all of this news is premature. Stay tuned for more on this project as it is announced.
