Shudder Snags Exclusive US Distribution Rights for Epic J-Horror Match Up Sadako vs Kayako

Sadako vs Kayako - Sadako vs. Kayako

Wicked Horror has just received word that AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder has scooped up the exclusive US rights to the hotly-anticipated J-Horror match up Sadako vs Kayako. The streaming platform has announced plans to debut the feature in late 2016.

Ju-On and Ringu are two of the most successful and well known J-Horror features ever released. Both films have seen a barrage of sequels and been remade for American audiences, with each remake spawning a series of stateside follow up efforts.

Interestingly, in the age of viral videos, the film is still kicking it old school with a worn out VHS tape serving as Sadako’s portal into the lives of unsuspecting victims. I would have expected that someone might have converted the tape to a YouTube video by now.

The film made its Japanese premiere June 18th and has garnered mostly positive reviews in the days since its debut. While we wait for the flick to premiere on Shudder, you can check out the trailer in the player below. The teaser does not feature any subtitles, so it’s a bit difficult to tell what the hell is going on. However, it’s still obvious that it is atmospheric and spooky.
