Rings has cast a male lead in the form of the up-and-coming Alex Roe. The young actor is also slated to appear in the upcoming YA film The Fifth Wave. Roe will be appearing opposite previously announced cast member Matilda Lutz. Alex Roe will play Holt, the boyfriend of Lutz’s character who begins to display strange behavior after watching the notorious VHS tape.
We previously reported that Rings would be a prequel to the 2002 film, The Ring. We had expected that it would explain what happened leading up to the events depicted in the first film in the series. But based on what we have learned about the plot of the latest installment, that assumption may have been premature. The film is slated to hit theaters Friday November 13, 2015.
Akiva Goldsman, David Loucka and Jacob Aaron Estes co-penned the script, which is based on a novel by Koji Suzuki. F. Javier Gutiérrez will be assuming directorial duties on the project. Not a lot else is known about the upcoming prequel at this point in time. But stay tuned to the site in the coming months for updates on this project as they are announced.
The 2002 feature film, The Ring tells the story of a haunted VHS cassette that causes anyone that watches it to die seven days later. The tape is associated with the ghosts of a young girl named Samara who appears to have died an untimely and violent death.
