A new horror game is currently in development by Novum Analytics. Upon completion, the game will offer a variety of innovations and deliver a blend of reality and augmented reality that is sure to terrify and delight fans of all things macabre. Night Terrors will turn your home into a haunted house.
The development team behind the game began with a proposed timeframe of eight months to complete the app. That has turned into a grand total of two years and as such, more funding is now required. The developers have turned to IndieGoGo in the hopes that you will help them complete the process. A donation of $5 will guarantee you a copy of the finished version of the game upon release. Larger donations allow you to see your likeness appear in the game and or voice one of the demons in the app. The proceeds from the crowd funding campaign will allow for the app to be ported to operating systems beyond iOS 5 and up. The end goal being to make the finished product available across Android and Windows devices in addition to Apple products.
The game uses a process called environment mapping that allows for the program to detect walls, ceilings, floors, and the like. That ability makes the experience much more interactive and when coupled with all of the other innovations the completed product will feature, it’s sure to be a game changer. Night Terrors will also employ point-source modeling, environment filtering and intensity scanning. The app will be able to use your phone’s microphone to detect ambient noise in your environment. In order for the game to work, it must be played in total darkness, with the LED on your device being the only light source.
According to the IndieGoGo campaign, “audio is spatialized, mixed with the microphone feed, and then routed to the headphones delivering an immersive binaural audio experience. The camera and microphone feeds are analyzed and processed in real time.”
The developers have also opted to use practical effects to create the demons and other creatures in their game. Their campaign page explains it in the following terms, “We’re using practical effects opposed to CGI – In Night Terrors, every augmented element is photographed in order to compost elements and match lighting in the players’ environment. With control over the devices LED, the lighting conditions of both element and environment can be manipulated to create a perfect, extraordinarily frightening match.”
