Bloody Disgusting spoke with Joe Dante yesterday and the ‘Master of Horror’ confirmed that the Gremlins reboot is finally making its way out of development hell and will likely be coming to fruition sooner than we may have thought. During the interview, Dante let it slip that the remake is underway and has finally made some serious progress. Check out his statement after the jump!

While Dante didn’t offer a great deal of information beyond confirming that the redux has gained steam, what he said was enough to gain some major traction amongst horror fans.

When Bloody Disgusting probed Joe Dante about the Gremlins reimagining, he said the following:

“Lots of people have asked me, but honestly I don’t really have much to do with it. There are two major entities involved – Warner Brothers and Amblin – and various people have been trying jump through the hoops with the studios to get this picture off the ground for years. Although some very well-known people have come up with a concept and some good ideas over that time, for whatever reason they were not seized upon until recently. I’m told they’re finally working on something now, but frankly I have no idea what it is!”

Judging by what Dante had to say, we should be expecting more news in the not so distant future. We will keep you in the loop as additional details are unveiled.
