J.J. Abrams Teases Third Cloverfield Film!

10 Cloverfield Lane

While we still don’t know quite how the film that J.J. Abrams is calling a “blood relative” to the original will tie into the Cloverfield universe, we do have several updates for your courtesy of EW.

When the outlet asked the producer if the plan was to take a Twilight Zone style approach, where the only connections between the films would be tonal, Abrams actually hinted that he is interested in putting together a third film in a shared universe. “I think that would be presumptuous, because we’re talking about this movie and comparing it to Cloverfield, but I would be lying if I didn’t say there was something else that, if we’re lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories.”

Abrams went on to say that there is a “larger conceit” at play. “This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now,” Abrams elaborated. “There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot.”

I am still curious if this may be a sequel set in the aftermath of what occurred in the first film or if it will be its own entity altogether?

The follow up effort is directed by  Dan Trachtenberg in his feature film directorial debut and stars John Goodman (Red State), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3), and John Gallagher Jr. (Jonah Hex). The film will see a nationwide release in both conventional theatres and IMAX March 11, 2016.
