Is Cabin in the Woods 2 Heading to a Theater Near You?

twenty movies not to watch with gran feature by nicola odeku

In news I never thought would happen, we have just learned that Cabin in the Woods could potentially see a sequel someday. Given that it only took in about $42 million at the domestic box office against an estimated budget of $30 Million, I assumed that a follow up was a definite no go. But in an interesting turn of events, Drew Goddard revealed, while doing press for The Martian, that the studio has actually approached him about the possibility of a sequel.

Goddard explained that LionsGate is actually interested in seeing a second installment put into production, “the studio wants to do it. They’ve come to us,” the director told Den of Geek. “The funny part is, I don’t think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know?”

When the outlet pointed out that the ending didn’t really leave room for a sequel Goddard remarked, “It doesn’t. But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff. So, I’m sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don’t want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we’d only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose.”

As for whether or not they have any solid ideas, Goddard said, “Yeah, we don’t know. There’s nothing in the hopper right now, but who knows? The way Joss and I work, we might wake up tomorrow and go, ‘let’s go do that,’ or whatever.”

In Cabin in the Woods, a group of college friends take to a cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway. In true horror film fashion, the students do some screwing, things go awry, evil rears its ugly head, and people die.

Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more on this if and or when it breaks! In the meantime, let us know what you think about the possibility of a Cabin in the Woods sequel in the comments section below.
