R.L. Stine’s Fear Street Movie Nabs A Writer

Fear Street

As we reported last week, a feature film based on R.L. Stine’s hugely popular Fear Street novels is finally becoming a reality, after long being in the works.

Stine confirmed in a Tweet that the movie was in pre-production and that they were currently “waiting for a good script”. He cautiously suggested looking out for it some time next year.

Now, it seems Stine may not have to wait long to read the screenplay as, according to Tracking Board a writer has been hired for the project.

Kyle Killen, who scripted Mel Gibson tragicomedy The Beaver, among others will tackle the project for Fox and Chernin Entertainment.

Killen is an interesting choice for the project, but could certainly have the right attributes to convey Stine’s series’ teen-lite tone.

Anticipation for the Fear Street adaptation is high, particularly after the success of 2015’s Jack Black-starring Goosebumps (the release date of the sequel to which has unfortunately been pushed back).

In another Tweet, Stine stoked fans’ flames with this tidbit: “The Fear Street movie will be an original story. There may be MORE THAN ONE Fear Street movie!”

No word just yet on a targeted release date for the flick.

But stay tuned to Wicked Horror for more on this project as we learn it!
