Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing a remake of Don’t Look Now. This is the same team behind the Escape from New York remake (which is still in the early stages of development).
The film is being made under the Studio Canal banner. According to THR, studios are already expressing interest in the project. No writer, director, or cast is attached at this point but stay we will keep you apprised as more updates are announced.
If I’m being completely honest, I’m a little skeptical on this one. This is a tried and true classic and it’s difficult to think what could be improved upon or added to the original that wasn’t already spot on. So, I am hopeful that the remake will go in a largely different direction and only use the Nicolas Roeg classic as a loose template or a jumping off point. But all in all, remake or no remake, the original stands as an excellent slice of ’70s horror cinema.
Don’t Look Now follows a couple mourning the loss of their daughter. When they journey to Venice, they meet a woman who says she has made contact with their daughter in the afterlife. Despite being warned that their very lives are in danger, the couple stays in Italy and tempts fate.
