Excited for the upcoming redux of Stephen King’s It? So are we. And it is with great pleasure that we share a double dose of updates regarding the forthcoming big screen adaptation of the Stephen King tome. First, and perhaps most excitingly, we have discovered an Instagram post that may provide some insight into what Pennywise will look like in the upcoming reimagining. Several months ago, director Andrés Muschietti shared an image on the photo sharing site that features a composition notebook with a sketch on the front that may very well be a rendering of the film’s antagonist. Though the post has been floating around cyberspace for some time, it went largely unnoticed until now. You can check it out for yourself, below. We’ve also included a shot featuring a cluster of red balloons in the director’s office and a first look at the film’s logo etched on the back of a director’s chair. Thanks to John at BD for the tip.
Second, we have just learned via Deadline that the one and only female member of The Losers’ Club has been cast. Child actress Sophia Lillis (pictured below) has signed on to play Beverly.
As we previously reported, Bill Skarsgard is in final negotiations to appear as the film’s antagonist. The actor will appear alongside Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jeremy Ray Taylor.
What we know thus far is that the project will shoot between July 7th and September 6th in Canada. We also know that the producers are targeting an R-rating! The creative team says that their intent is to stay as close to the source material as possible. We previously reported that the California Tax Credit would be utilized by the production. So, while there are plans to shoot in Canada, it is expected that at least part of the feature will lens in CA. It has been a long road to get this project ready to go before cameras but the redux is now moving full steam ahead.
Original director Cary Fukunaga departed the It remake over budgetary disagreements with the studio. Andrés Muschietti (Mama) is now set to helm the forthcoming adaptation of the Stephen King tom, which is expected to be split into two parts. Gary Doberman wrote the most recent draft of the script with Muschietti. The film is currently targeting a September 8, 2017 release date.
The 1991 television miniseries and the forthcoming remake are both based on the Stephen King tome of the same name. No additional details on the upcoming project are available at this time but stay tuned to the site in the coming months and we will keep you apprised as more news is announced.
