Cold in July is directed by Jim Mickle (We are What We are). The film is based on a Joe R. Lansdale novel of the same name. It was adapted for the screen by Jim Mickle and Nick Damici. The film made its world premier at The Sundance Film Festival January 18, 2014 and will make its him video debut September 30, 2014, courtesy of IFC Films and MPI Media Group.
The feature stars Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Don Johnson (Django Unchained), and Vinessa Shaw (The Hills Have Eyes 2006). It received rave reviews at Sundance and is ‘certified fresh’ on the popular aggregate film rating site Rotten Tomatoes.
Cold in July finds its protagonist, Richard discovering a burglar in his home. When confronted by the intruder, Richard makes the fateful decision to shoot him in the head. Richard is praised by his neighbors and deemed a hero. But he doesn’t have long to appreciate the attention he has garnered. Shortly after the incident, the intruder’s father comes to town with an agenda that includes revenge. Richard must think on his feet if he stands any chance of protecting his family and himself.
