Check Out the Unseen Alternate Ending to Kevin Smith’s Red State

Red State

Red State

It’s long been known that Kevin Smith did not get to end his 2011 horror film Red State in the grandiose fashion he wanted. The result is a fairly tame conclusion that Smith was not entirely happy with. The director reports that budgetary constraints kept him from fully realizing his vision.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted a new installment of their segment ‘Scene Unseen’ that realizes film sequences that were never filmed. The outlet had Smith explain the epically gory conclusion he had originally planned for the film and brought it to life with the help of animation. It would have been great to see Smith’s original ending realized but this is probably the next best thing.

We have the video available for you to check out in the player below. Have a look and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Do you think the original ending would have helped the film as a whole?

Red State tells the story of a group of young men who are lured into the clutches of a cult of religious fantasists via a website that promises quick sex. Once the boys realize that they have been duped, it’s too late for them to do anything about it.
