Busting Heads: New Video Explores the Science of Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters

Hot off the release of the controversial trailer for this year’s Ghostbusters reboot comes a video featurette that takes us inside the surprising amount of science behind the summer blockbuster. Featuring interviews with both director Paul Feig and particle physicist James Maxwell, this short video is just over a minute long but takes us into the real-world requirements of creating something as complicated as the proton pack.

While it’s unlikely that the video will do much to sway the opinions of those who are already set against seeing the reboot, it’s impressive to get a look at how much thought is being put into the upcoming film.

It’s also a good way of keeping in line with the original Ghostbusters. Co-writer and co-star Dan Aykroyd was himself an avid, lifelong admirer of all things paranormal and put much of his own research into the script for the 1984 original. This reboot seems to be taking a more traditional approach to science.

If anything, it can only help quiet concerns that Feig’s Ghostbusters will only be focused on the laughs and won’t take the material seriously.

The Paul Feig helmed reboot is penned by Katie Dippold (The Heat). It stars Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth.
