Beware of Bears – Backcountry Will Make its World Premiere at TIFF

The upcoming horror film Backcountry, which is based on actual events, is slated to make its world premiere Monday, September 8 at the Toronto International Film Festival. No word yet on commercial distribution or a stateside premiere but we will keep you apprised as more details are unveiled.

The film is written and directed by actor Adam McDonald in his feature film directorial debut. It stars Missy Peregrym (Reaper), Jeff Roop (Jekyll + Hyde), and Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003).

Backcountry zeroes in on a wilderness enthusiast named Alex and hist girlfriend Jenn. Alex convinces Jenn to take to the great outdoors for an adventure in the Canadian wilderness. He plans to introduce her to one of his favorite spots called The  Blackfoot Trail. On the night of their departure, the pair encounters an ominous stranger that they suspect may be following them. Shortly after meeting the stranger, he begins to make unwanted advances toward Jenn. In the days that follow, they continue their journey but ultimately end up completely lost. As they struggle to regain their way in the middle of bear country, the pair narrowly escapes a close call with an angry bear. Being lost quickly becomes much less of a concern than simply surviving.
