ABCs of Death 3 May be Dead in the Water Due to Piracy

In spite of the end credits of ABCs of Death 2 teasing a third installment, the film series created by Ant Timpson and Tim League may not live to die another day. Online piracy of the second film caused a significant decrease in revenue compared to the first and a third installment is now becoming less and less likely according to an interview Ant Timpson did with We Got this Covered.

This is hugely disappointing, not because I am a die-hard fan of the ABCs of Death films but because of what this means for indie film in general. Independent filmmakers work tirelessly to get their films out there and when people would rather steal their work than pay a few bucks to show their support, it hurts everyone.

“Tim [League] and I are thinking about it,” Timpson told the outlet in regards to a third film. “At the end of the day, it’s a financial thing. Sequels always drop down a little bit from the first film, and [The ABCs Of Death 2] got pirated up the wazoo, so that sucked. We got pirated before VOD, even. Before our world premiere. That’s the worst case scenario. That’s the Expendables scenario. It really hurt us a lot, so we’ll have to crunch the numbers, talk to Magnolia Pictures, and see what’s going on.”
