Justin Hamline of Trailer Punk Podcast Digs DEEP into Ernest Scared Stupid!

Ernest Scared Stupid is one of the greatest gateway horror movies ever. That’s not opinion, that’s scientific fact. And if you’re wondering which scientific study that comes from, it comes from the University of Everybody Already Knows That, Ya Big Dummy.

I feel like I could write entire books about the intrinsic greatness of Ernest Scared Stupid. There’s just SO much to love about the 1991 film, from the inspired performance by Eartha Kitt to the awesome soundtrack to the unexpectedly horrifying monster effects to the HILARIOUS one-liners to Jim Varney doing his best Bruce Campbell routine and kicking all kinds of demonic ass.

There were a lot of great gateway horror movies in the early ’90s, from Hocus Pocus to The Nightmare Before Christmas. But Ernest Scared Stupid, pound for pound, gag for gag and troll for troll, might just be the BEST of them all. And to make the argument on the film’s behalf, Wicked Horror has recruited Justin Hamline of Trailer Punk Podcast to wax nostalgic on the beloved “family friendly” holiday classic … which just so happens to have a LOT darker undertones than you probably remember.

But hey, you don’t have to listen to me yammer on and on about the movie’s intrinsic greatness. Why don’t we let Justin himself tell it like it us through the magic of embedded YouTube goodness? I’ve got a feeling you’re going to enjoy this one, folks … it’s a GREAT trip down memory lane.

🎃🎃🎃Five Things You’ll Learn From This Video!🎃🎃

— Why Ernest Goes To Camp really should’ve been called Ernest Endangers The Lives of Children and Commits Domestic Terrorism.

— Which 1980s cult classic horror movies directly and indirectly inspired the flick (hint: Killer Klowns From Outer Space plays a VERY pivotal role here.)

— Why there’s such a bizarre lack of troll representation in horror movie (well, kinda.)

— How the film canonically exists in the same universe as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.

— At long last … WTF Miak really is!

It’s a heck of a way to spend half an hour, I’ll tell you that right now. And do yourself a favor and follow Justin on Instagram while you’re at it; more information on his upcoming documentary The Empty Bike is also available right here.
