New on Netflix is a weekly feature here at Wicked Horror in which we take a look at the latest additions to everyone’s favorite streaming service. While June has been relatively impressive thus far, re-adding favorites like Pet Sematary, Troll, Troll 2, Dead Snow, Repo! The Genetic Opera and more, things are definitely starting to wind down.
Still, that doesn’t mean we’re totally coming up empty-handed. There are still a few horror themed features to watch out for, whether they’re outright horror or not. With that on mind, here are this week’s newest horror additions to Netflix.
A Haunted House 2
Apparently, there were enough fans of A Haunted House to warrant a sequel. While it can come off as an attempt to recreate the Wayans brothers’ earlier success of Scary Movie, there should be enough in there to keep people interested. This is, not surprisingly, an irreverent and raunchy spoof of the latest slew of popular haunted house fare. Just go in with that in mind and you should be able to enjoy yourself.
R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It
We have not one but two movies this month from arguably the most well-known author of YA horror, R.L. Stine. In this feature film spinoff of The Haunting Hour–which, come to think of it, already negates the title–a young girl and her friends find themselves in for an interesting Halloween when they raise a monster by reading aloud from an ancient book. It also features an appearance by Saw‘s Tobin Bell. Like just about everything else with his name attached, this was based on Stine’s book of the same title.
Essentially the kids movie version of The Frighteners, Mostly Ghostly centers on a boy named Max Doyle who has a few long-dead house guests that only he can see. While it may not appeal to all audiences, this one will be quick to win over the kids with its goofy supernatural antics and a few genuine laughs.
