Dolly Dearest is Playful Nineties Fun [The Rabid Dog’s House]

The Rabid Dog’s House is a recurring feature at Wicked Horror where contributor Justin Steele uncovers hidden gems, lost classics, and overlooked indie offerings. Flying solo or with his co-host Zena Dixon, he will discuss an array of topics covering film, literature, and television. Check out the latest installment below. In this episode we’re looking back at 1991’s Dolly Dearest!

Directed by Maria Lease, Dolly Dearest follows Marilyn Wade (Denise Crosby), a woman relocating to Mexico with her husband (Sam Bottoms) and two kids (Candace Hutson and Chris Demetral) in order for her husband to reopen a factory to manufacture a new doll. Unfortunately, an archaeologist (Rip Torn) and his crew have unearthed a demonic entity located near the factory. One of the dolls begins to have a sinister influence over Marilyn’s angelic daughter, and it becomes up to Marilyn, with help from her precocious son, to find out what is happening to her daughter before it is too late.
